# Turn on Jovvie Checkout for GiveWP donation forms

> Turn on the Jovvie Payments gateway in GiveWP and on the donation forms where you take in-person donations.

This page helps you turn on Jovvie in GiveWP so your donation forms can take in-person donations. Jovvie shows up in GiveWP as a payment gateway (a way to pay) named **Jovvie Payments**. You turn it on in GiveWP, then make sure each donation form where you want to take in-person donations offers it.

## Before you start

- The Jovvie plugin is installed and **Connection Status** shows **Connected**. See [Install and connect](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/install-and-connect/).
- You are signed in to WordPress as an administrator.

## Turn on the gateway in GiveWP

1. In WordPress, go to **Donations** > **Settings** > **Payment Gateways**.
2. Find **Jovvie Payments** in the list of gateways.
3. Turn on **Jovvie Payments**.
4. Save your changes.

## Make sure the form offers Jovvie

GiveWP decides which turned-on gateways each donation form offers. The form editor and its labels belong to GiveWP and can differ between GiveWP versions, so this page does not list them. If a form does not show the Jovvie option, open that form in GiveWP’s form editor and check its payment gateway settings. Make sure **Jovvie Payments** is included, then save the form. To find where these settings are in your version, see GiveWP’s own documentation.

On the form, the payment option for Jovvie is labeled **Swipe, Insert or Tap Donations**. Donors and staff see this name, not **Jovvie Payments**.

Under that option, the form shows a short message that starts with **How it works**. It explains that the donor is sent to accept the in-person payment, then taps, swipes, or inserts a card on the reader (or uses Apple Pay or Google Pay). The donor is then sent back to see the donation receipt.

## Check it works

1. Turn on GiveWP’s test mode. Jovvie follows this setting, so no real card is charged. See [Use test mode](https://docs.jovvie.com/payments/test-mode/).

2. Open the form on the device you will use.

3. Confirm that **Swipe, Insert or Tap Donations** appears under the payment options.

4. Start a test donation and submit the form. See [Take an in-person donation](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/take-a-donation/).

5. On the Jovvie payment page, before you select a reader, confirm that the orange **Test Mode** bar appears across the top.

   If you do not see it, the page is in live mode. Click **← Back** without taking a payment, and check GiveWP’s test mode setting.

6. Finish the test donation on a simulated reader.

7. When you are done testing, turn off GiveWP’s test mode before you take real donations.

If you do not see **Swipe, Insert or Tap Donations**, check that **Jovvie Payments** is turned on in GiveWP’s gateway settings and included on the form, and that **Connection Status** still shows **Connected**.
