# Install and connect Jovvie Checkout for GiveWP

Section: Jovvie Checkout > GiveWP

> Install the Jovvie plugin for GiveWP and connect it to your Jovvie and Stripe accounts.

This page helps you install the Jovvie plugin for GiveWP and connect it to your Jovvie account, so your donation forms can take card donations on a card reader. The plugin is a ready-made way to use Jovvie Checkout with GiveWP, and it works with Stripe.

## Before you start

- GiveWP is installed and active on your WordPress site. The Jovvie plugin does not load without it, and WordPress shows the notice **Jovvie Payments Gateway for GiveWP requires GiveWP plugin to be active.**
- You are signed in to WordPress as an administrator.
- You can sign in to, or create, a Jovvie account, and you can link a Stripe account to it.
- Your browser allows pop-up windows from your WordPress site. The connection steps open a pop-up window.

## Install the plugin

1. In your WordPress admin, go to **Plugins** > **Add New Plugin**.
2. Search for **Tap To Donate for Give by Jovvie**.
3. Click **Install Now**.
4. Click **Activate**.

In your WordPress Plugins list, the plugin appears as **Jovvie Payments Gateway for GiveWP**.

Until you connect, WordPress shows a banner titled **Jovvie Payments Gateway Activated: In-Person Donations**.

## Connect with Jovvie Payments

1. In the banner, click **Configure Settings**.

If the banner is gone, go to **Donations** > **Settings** > **Payment Gateways** > **Jovvie Payments** instead.

2. Make sure the **Account Management** group is open.

3. Next to **Connection Status**, click **Connect with Jovvie Payments**.

   A pop-up window opens.

4. In the pop-up, follow the prompts to sign in or create your Jovvie account and link your Stripe account.

5. Wait for the message **Jovvie successfully connected! Payments enabled for processing.**

The pop-up closes and the settings page reloads after a few seconds.

## Check the connection status

After you connect, **Connection Status** shows one of these:

- **Connected**: The plugin can reach your Jovvie account. You are ready to [turn on Jovvie for your forms](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/enable-on-forms/).
- **Not Connected: Invalid keys**: The saved connection details are not accepted. Contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).
- **Not Connected: Something went wrong**: The plugin could not check the connection. Reload the page and check again. If the message stays, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

If the pop-up shows **Failed to validate keys** or **Unable to connect**, close it, click **Connect with Jovvie Payments** again, and try once more. If it fails again, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

The status label also shows the mode, for example **Connection Status (live)** or **Connection Status (test)**.

> **Note**
>
> Jovvie follows GiveWP’s test mode setting. When GiveWP is in test mode, Jovvie works in test mode too, and no real card is charged. Turn off GiveWP’s test mode before you take real donations. See [Use test mode](https://docs.jovvie.com/payments/test-mode/).

## Next steps

1. [Set up a Jovvie Checkout location and card readers in WordPress](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/locations-and-readers/). For GiveWP, these settings are in the **Location & Terminals** group.
2. [Turn on Jovvie for your forms](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/enable-on-forms/).
3. [Take an in-person donation](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/take-a-donation/).
