# Take an in-person donation with Jovvie Checkout for GiveWP

Section: Jovvie Checkout > GiveWP

> Accept a card donation on a reader using your GiveWP donation form and Jovvie.

Take an in-person card donation using Jovvie Checkout with your GiveWP donation form. The donor taps, inserts, or swipes their card on your Stripe card reader, and GiveWP records the donation.

## Before you start

- The Jovvie plugin for GiveWP is installed and connected. In **Donations** > **Settings** > **Payment Gateways** > **Jovvie Payments** > **Account Management**, the connection status shows **Connected**. See [Install and connect Jovvie Checkout for GiveWP](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/install-and-connect/).

- **Jovvie Payments** is turned on for the donation form you want to use. See [Turn on Jovvie Checkout for GiveWP donation forms](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/enable-on-forms/).

- A Stripe card reader is registered to your connected Stripe account, powered on, and connected to the internet. See [Set up a Jovvie Checkout location and card readers in WordPress](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/locations-and-readers/). If this browser was connected to a specific location, the reader must be registered to that location.

- The device you use to take donations can reach your card readers in one of these ways:

  - You are signed in to WordPress on this device.
  - This browser was connected in **Donations** > **Settings** > **Payment Gateways** > **Jovvie Payments** > **Payment Connect** using **Connect this browser**.
  - You know your Access PIN, the PIN that lets someone use your readers. Without one of the first two, the payment page asks for it.

> **Note**
>
> Jovvie follows GiveWP’s test mode setting. In test mode, no real card is charged, and the payment page lists simulated readers instead of your real readers. Turn off GiveWP’s test mode before you take real donations.

## Take the donation

1. Open your donation form on the device.

2. Enter the donation amount.

3. Enter the donor’s details.

4. Under the payment options, select **Swipe, Insert or Tap Donations**.

5. Submit the form.

You are taken to the Jovvie payment page. It shows the donation amount.

6. Select **In-Person Payment**.

7. If you see **Provide PIN to access**, enter your Access PIN in **PIN**. If you do not see it, skip to step 9.

8. Click **Submit**.

9. Under **Choose a reader**, select the reader the donor will use. Each reader shows its name and status.

10. Click **Process Payment**.

11. Ask the donor to tap, insert, or swipe their card on the reader, or pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay on the reader.

12. Follow any prompts on the reader screen.

When the payment goes through, the donor’s receipt appears. After 7 seconds, the page goes back to the donation form, ready for the next donor.

## What happens to the donation

GiveWP marks the donation **Complete** and adds the note **Donation Captured.**

This happens only when the payment page sends the browser back to your site. If the tab closes or the connection drops first, the donation can stay **Pending** even though the donor was charged. If a donation stays **Pending**:

1. Check your Stripe Dashboard for the payment.
2. If the donor was charged, do not take the donation again.
3. Contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

## If you need to stop

Before you leave the payment page, retry a donation, or take payment another way, check your Stripe Dashboard. Confirm that no payment went through and none is still processing. If you cannot confirm this, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/) before continuing.

If no payment went through and none is still processing, click **← Back** to return to the donation form. GiveWP marks the unpaid donation **Abandoned** with the note **Donation canceled by user.**

## Need help?

If the payment page shows an error or GiveWP shows **Invalid Checkout Error**, see [Checkout payment page errors for GiveWP](https://docs.jovvie.com/troubleshooting/checkout-errors/#givewp) or contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).
