# Take a Gravity Forms payment with Jovvie Checkout

Section: Jovvie Checkout > Gravity Forms

> Submit a Gravity Forms form and take the card payment on a Stripe card reader with Jovvie.

Take an in-person card payment using Jovvie Checkout with your Gravity Forms form. The customer taps, inserts, or swipes their card on your Stripe card reader, and Gravity Forms records the payment on the form entry.

## Before you start

- The Jovvie add-on for Gravity Forms is installed and connected. In **Forms** > **Settings** > **Jovvie Payments**, **Connection Status** shows **Connected**. See [Install and connect](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/gravity-forms/install-and-connect/).

- **Accepted Payment Status** is set to **Completed (Paid)**, the default. See [Settings reference](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/gravity-forms/settings/).

- The form has a Jovvie payment feed and produces an amount greater than zero. See [Add Jovvie to a form](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/gravity-forms/add-to-a-form/).

- A Stripe card reader is registered to your connected Stripe account, turned on, and connected to the internet. See [Set up a location and readers in WordPress](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/locations-and-readers/). If this browser was connected to a specific location, the reader must be registered to that location.

- The device you use to take payments can reach your card readers in one of these ways:

  - You are signed in to WordPress on this device.
  - This browser was connected with **Connect this browser** in the **Payment Connect** group of the Jovvie settings. See [Use Checkout on a shared or kiosk device](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/connect-a-browser/).
  - You know your Access PIN, the PIN that lets someone use your readers. Without one of the first two, the payment page asks for it.

- Jovvie support has confirmed that payment updates from Jovvie (webhooks) are set up for your site. Your site uses them to learn about failed and cancelled payments. To check, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

> **Note**
>
> When **Use the Jovvie test environment** is selected, no real card is charged, and the payment page lists simulated readers instead of your real readers. The payment page shows the orange **Test Mode** bar across the top. If your form includes the **Jovvie Payments** field, the form also shows **Test mode is enabled. No live payment will be processed.** Turn off test mode before you take real payments.

## Take the payment

1. Open the form on the device.

2. Fill out the form with the customer’s details and choices.

3. Submit the form.

You are taken to the Jovvie payment page. It shows the items and the total.

4. Select **In-Person Payment**.

5. If you see **Provide PIN to access**, enter your Access PIN in **PIN**. If you do not see it, skip to step 7.

6. Click **Submit**.

7. Under **Choose a reader**, select the reader the customer will use. Each reader shows its name and status.

8. Click **Process Payment**.

9. Ask the customer to tap, insert, or swipe their card on the reader, or pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay on the reader.

10. Follow any prompts on the reader screen.

When the payment goes through, you return to your site and see the form’s confirmation. If the confirmation is a message on the same page, the page goes back to a blank form after 5 seconds by default. See [Reset the form after each payment](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/gravity-forms/auto-reload/).

For more about the payment page, see [Take a payment on the Jovvie payment page](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/jovvie-payment-page/).

If you submit the form and the Jovvie payment page does not open, something went wrong while the payment was being set up. This does not prove that no payment started. Before you submit the form again or take the payment another way:

1. Check your Stripe Dashboard.
2. Confirm that no payment went through and none is still processing.
3. If you are not sure, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

To find the cause, see [Add Jovvie to a form](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/gravity-forms/add-to-a-form/#if-the-payment-does-not-start).

## What happens to the entry

When you submit the form, Gravity Forms saves the entry with the payment status **Processing**.

When you return to your site, the add-on checks the payment with Jovvie. If the payment went through, it marks the entry **Paid** and adds the note **Payment completed via Jovvie.**

The confirmation can appear even if the entry was not updated yet. To be sure, open the entry in **Forms** > **Entries** and check its payment status.

If you never return to your site, for example because the browser was closed, the entry stays **Processing** for now. About once an hour, the add-on checks entries that are still **Processing**:

- If the payment went through, it marks the entry **Paid**.
- If the payment failed or was cancelled, it marks the entry **Failed** and adds the note **Payment failed in Jovvie (reconciled).**

If your site receives a failure update from Jovvie first, the entry is marked **Failed** with the note **Payment failed in Jovvie.**

A card can be charged before the entry changes from **Processing**. If an entry is still **Processing**:

1. Check your Stripe Dashboard to see whether the payment went through or is still processing.
2. Do not charge the customer again. Wait for the hourly check to update the entry.
3. If the entry does not update, or you are not sure, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

## If you need to stop

To leave the payment page before the customer pays, click **← Back**. You return to a blank form, and no confirmation shows. The entry stays **Processing** until the hourly check marks it **Failed**.

Only click **← Back** after you are sure the customer has not paid. If a payment error appears, or you are not sure whether the card was charged, check your Stripe Dashboard first. Make sure no payment went through and none is still processing before you try again or submit the form again. If you are still not sure, contact support.

## Need help?

If the payment page shows an error, see [Checkout payment page errors](https://docs.jovvie.com/troubleshooting/checkout-errors/) or contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).
