# Take a payment on the Jovvie payment page

Section: Jovvie Checkout

> Choose a card reader on the Jovvie payment page and take an in-person card payment for an order, form entry, donation, or ticket order.

This page shows you how to take a card payment on the Jovvie payment page. After you place a WooCommerce order, submit a Gravity Forms form, submit a GiveWP donation form, or complete an Event Tickets checkout, your site opens the Jovvie payment page. This is where you choose a Stripe card reader and the customer pays.

These payment page steps apply to the ready-made Jovvie Checkout integrations for WooCommerce, Gravity Forms, GiveWP, and Event Tickets, which use Stripe. What happens to the order, entry, or donation afterward depends on the integration. See [Jovvie Checkout overview](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/).

## Before you start

- A Stripe card reader is registered to your connected Stripe account, turned on, and connected to the internet. See [Set up a location and readers in WordPress](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/locations-and-readers/).

- The device you use can reach your card readers in one of these ways:

  - You are signed in to WordPress on this device.
  - This browser was connected in the plugin settings. See [Use Checkout on a shared or kiosk device](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/connect-a-browser/).
  - You know your Access PIN, the PIN that lets someone use your readers. Your account owner sets it. Without one of the first two, the payment page asks for it.

## What you see on the payment page

- On the left (or at the top on a phone), a summary of the payment: the description, **One-time payment**, each item with its amount, and the **Total**. The **← Back** button is above the summary.
- On the right, the payment options: **In-Person Payment** and **Card**.

If your site is in test mode, an orange bar across the top says **Test Mode**. No real card is charged.

## Take the payment on a reader

1. Check that the **Total** is correct.

2. Select **In-Person Payment**.

3. If you see **Provide PIN to access**, enter your Access PIN in **PIN**. If you do not see it, skip to step 6.

4. Optional: select **Remember PIN** so this browser does not ask again. Only do this on a device that stays in your control.

5. Click **Submit**.

If you see **Wrong PIN**, enter the PIN again.

6. Under **Choose a reader**, select the reader the customer will use. Each reader shows its name and status.

These steps are for web terminals. A web terminal is a card reader that connects to the internet on its own, and staff use it from a web browser. A **Jovvie App** choice appears in the list only when the page is opened inside the Jovvie mobile app. See [Web terminals and app terminals](https://docs.jovvie.com/hardware/web-and-app-terminals/).

7. Click **Process Payment**.

The button changes to **Processing**, and the page shows the reader’s progress, such as **Waiting for input. Please proceed on the connected terminal.**

8. Ask the customer to tap, insert, or swipe their card on the reader, or pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay on the reader.

9. Follow any prompts on the reader screen.

When the payment goes through, the payment page sends you back to your site. What you see next depends on the integration:

- **WooCommerce**: the order received page. See [Take an in-person payment for an order](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/woocommerce/take-a-payment/).
- **Gravity Forms**: the form’s confirmation. See [Take an in-person payment with a form](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/gravity-forms/take-a-payment/).
- **GiveWP**: the donation receipt. See [Take an in-person donation](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/take-a-donation/).
- **Event Tickets**: the ticket order success page. See [Sell tickets at the door](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/the-events-calendar/sell-tickets-at-the-door/).

If the list says **No readers found**, check that your reader is turned on and registered, then reload the page. If you connected this browser to a location, the reader must be registered to that location. See [Reader not showing on the payment page](https://docs.jovvie.com/troubleshooting/reader-connection/).

> **Note: In test mode**
>
> The reader list shows simulated readers, with a message starting with **This is a simulated mode readers list.** To use physical readers registered in test mode instead, click **Switch to live readers**. This does not leave test mode or charge a real card.

## Enter card details instead

Use **Card** only when the customer cannot use the reader.

> **Caution: If you already tried the reader**
>
> A reader payment can go through even if the page shows an error. Before you switch to **Card**, check your Stripe Dashboard. Make sure no payment went through and none is still processing. If you cannot confirm this, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/) before you use **Card**.

1. Select **Card**.
2. Type the card details into the form.
3. Click **Pay**.

## If something goes wrong

If an error appears, the message box has two buttons: **Back** and **Reload**.

> **Caution: Before you try again**
>
> An error does not always mean the card was not charged. Before you take the payment again or leave the page, check your Stripe Dashboard. Make sure no payment went through and none is still processing. If you are not sure, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/) before you take another payment.

1. Check your Stripe Dashboard for this payment.
2. If the customer was charged, or a payment is still processing, do not charge again. Contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).
3. If no payment went through and none is processing, click **Reload**.
4. Take the payment again on the same page.

If you see **Payment has already been processed.**, this payment is no longer waiting for a card. It may already have gone through. Do not charge the customer again until you check your Stripe Dashboard.

If the page shows **Payment completed**, the payment went through. Click **Back** to return to your site. Do not take the payment again.

For other messages, see [Card declined and payment error messages](https://docs.jovvie.com/troubleshooting/payment-errors/) and [Checkout payment page errors](https://docs.jovvie.com/troubleshooting/checkout-errors/).

## Leave without paying

To leave the payment page before the customer pays, click **← Back**. This cancels the payment request on the Jovvie payment page and returns you to your site:

- **WooCommerce**: you go to the order received page, and the order stays **Pending payment**.
- **Gravity Forms**: you return to a blank form, and no confirmation shows.
- **GiveWP**: you return to the donation form, and GiveWP marks the donation **Abandoned**.
- **Event Tickets**: you return to the ticket checkout page.

Clicking **← Back** does not confirm that a card payment you already started on the reader was stopped. Only leave this way if the customer has not started paying. If you started a payment, or you are not sure, check your Stripe Dashboard first. Make sure no payment went through and none is still processing before you leave and take the payment another way. If you are still not sure, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

The same check applies to **Back** in an error message. It does not apply to **Back** on the **Payment completed** screen, which is the normal way back to your site after a successful payment.
