# Set up a Jovvie Checkout location and card readers in WordPress

Section: Jovvie Checkout

> Choose or create the Stripe location your Checkout plugin uses, and register web card readers to it.

Choose or create a Stripe location and register web card readers for Jovvie Checkout in WordPress. These steps apply to the WooCommerce, Gravity Forms, GiveWP, and Event Tickets integrations. A location is the place your card readers are registered to. It has an ID, which is how Stripe tells your locations apart.

Saving a location here does not limit which readers the payment page lists. The payment page shows the readers of one location only when the browser was connected to that location. See [Use Checkout on a shared or kiosk device](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/connect-a-browser/).

The ready-made Checkout integrations work with Stripe only. This page applies to the Jovvie plugins for WooCommerce, Gravity Forms, GiveWP, and Event Tickets, which are ready-made ways to use Jovvie Checkout. The Gravity Forms add-on labels and arranges some settings differently. Those differences are noted in each section.

## Before you start

- The Jovvie plugin is installed and connected to your Jovvie account, which is linked to your Stripe account. See Install and connect for [WooCommerce](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/woocommerce/install-and-connect/), [Gravity Forms](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/gravity-forms/install-and-connect/), [GiveWP](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/givewp/install-and-connect/), or [Event Tickets](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/the-events-calendar/install-and-connect/).
- You are a WordPress administrator.
- For a web terminal (a card reader that connects to the internet on its own, which staff use from a web browser), have the reader turned on and connected to the internet, and have its registration code ready. The registration code is a short code the reader shows on its screen. See your reader’s instructions for how to display it.

## Where to find the settings

| Plugin | Where to go | Location section | Reader section |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------- |
| WooCommerce | **WooCommerce** > **Settings** > **Payments** > **Jovvie Payments** > **Location & Terminals** | **Location ID** | **Register Reader** |
| Gravity Forms | **Forms** > **Settings** > **Jovvie Payments** | **Location ID**, in the **Location & Terminals** group | **Reader Registration** |
| GiveWP | **Donations** > **Settings** > **Payment Gateways** > **Jovvie Payments** > **Location & Terminals** | **Location ID** | **Register Reader** |
| Event Tickets | **Tickets** > **Settings** > **Payments** > **Jovvie** | **Location ID** | **Register Reader** |

In WooCommerce, GiveWP, and Event Tickets, the **Register Reader** section only appears after you create a location with **Create location**. It does not appear when you use **Custom Location ID**. In Gravity Forms, the **Reader Registration** group is always shown and registers readers to the location you saved.

## Choose one way to set the location

The **Location ID** section gives you two options.

- **Custom Location ID**: use a location that already exists in your Stripe account.
- **Create location**: have Jovvie create a location for you.

### Use an existing location

1. Open the settings page, as listed in [Where to find the settings](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/locations-and-readers/#where-to-find-the-settings).
2. In the **Location ID** section, select **Custom Location ID**.
3. In **Stripe Location ID**, enter your location ID. Copy it from your Stripe Dashboard.
4. Save your changes.

Readers you registered in your Stripe Dashboard or the Jovvie app stay registered to their own locations. In WooCommerce, GiveWP, and Event Tickets, you cannot register web readers from WordPress to a custom location. To do that, use **Create location** instead. In Gravity Forms, you can register web readers to the custom location you saved, using the **Reader Registration** group.

### Create a location

1. In the **Location ID** section, select **Create location**.
2. Enter **Address Line 1**.
3. Optional: enter **Address Line 2**.
4. Enter **Postal Code** and **City**.
5. Select your **Country**. In some countries, the list also asks for a state or region.
6. Save your changes.

Jovvie creates one location for live mode and one for test mode. The section now shows **Created Location** with a **Live Stripe Location ID** and a **Test Stripe Location ID**, and lists the readers registered to each with their status.

In Gravity Forms, **Country (2-letter code)** is a text box where you type the two-letter country code, and **State / Province (optional)** is a separate box. After you save, **Current Location** shows a **Live Location ID** and a **Test Location ID**, with the readers registered to each and their status.

If you see **Failed to create location. Please check the data you entered and try again.**, check the address and try again. This message appears in WooCommerce and Event Tickets. In GiveWP, the form stays as it was if the location could not be created. In Gravity Forms, no message appears. If **Current Location** still shows **No location configured yet.** after you save, check the address and try again.

> **Note**
>
> Readers you register with **Mode** set to **Live** go to the live location, and readers registered with **Test** go to the test location. Each plugin follows its own test mode setting for payments. See [Use test mode](https://docs.jovvie.com/payments/test-mode/).

## Register a web reader

Web terminals need a registration code. App terminals, such as M2, WisePad 3, and Tap to Pay, connect through the Jovvie app. The app registers them for you, so they do not use this form.

Create a location before you start. In WooCommerce, GiveWP, and Event Tickets, the **Register Reader** section appears only for a created location. In Gravity Forms, save a location first, then use the **Reader Registration** group.

1. In the **Register Reader** section, choose the **Mode**: **Live** or **Test**.
2. In **Registration Code**, enter the code shown on the reader.
3. Optional: in **Label**, enter a name staff will recognize, such as “Front counter”. In Gravity Forms, this field is **Reader Label (optional)**.
4. Save your changes.

The reader is registered to the location for the mode you chose. For a location made with **Create location**, the reader now appears in the list under **Created Location**, or under **Current Location** in Gravity Forms. In Gravity Forms, if you saved a **Custom Location ID**, **Current Location** shows only the location ID and no reader list. Check for the reader in your Stripe Dashboard instead.

If the reader does not appear on the payment page, check that it is powered on and connected to the internet. If the browser you use was connected to a specific location, also check that the reader is registered to that location. See [Reader not showing on the payment page](https://docs.jovvie.com/troubleshooting/reader-connection/).

## Reset a created location

Use **Reset Location** only if you want to remove the location Jovvie created and start over. In Gravity Forms, this option is **Reset location**.

> **Caution**
>
> Resetting removes the readers registered to the created live and test locations, and then removes the locations. You must register your readers again afterward. Do not reset while a payment is in progress.
>
> In Gravity Forms, **Reset location** is also offered when you saved a location with **Custom Location ID**. It then deletes the readers registered to that location, and the location itself, from your Stripe account.

1. In the **Location ID** section, select **Reset Location**.
2. Save your changes.

After the reset, choose **Custom Location ID** or **Create location** again.
