# Take a WooCommerce order payment with Jovvie Checkout

Section: Jovvie Checkout > WooCommerce

> Place a WooCommerce order with Jovvie Payments and take the card payment on a Stripe card reader.

Take an in-person card payment using Jovvie Checkout with your WooCommerce checkout. The customer taps, inserts, or swipes their card on your Stripe card reader, and WooCommerce records the payment on the order.

## Before you start

- The Jovvie plugin for WooCommerce is installed and connected. In **WooCommerce** > **Settings** > **Payments** > **Jovvie Payments** > **Account Management**, the connection status shows **Connected**. See [Install and connect](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/woocommerce/install-and-connect/).

- **Jovvie Payments** is turned on in the same section (**Enable/Disable**).

- A Stripe card reader is registered to your connected Stripe account, turned on, and connected to the internet. See [Set up a location and readers in WordPress](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/locations-and-readers/). If this browser was connected to a specific location, the reader must be registered to that location.

- The device you use to take payments can reach your card readers in one of these ways:

  - You are signed in to WordPress on this device.
  - This browser was connected with **Connect this browser** in **Payment Connect**. See [Use Checkout on a shared or kiosk device](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/connect-a-browser/).
  - You know your Access PIN, the PIN that lets someone use your readers. Without one of the first two, the payment page asks for it.

- Jovvie support has confirmed that payment confirmations from Stripe (webhooks, which are automatic messages sent to your site) are set up for your site. WooCommerce only marks an order paid when your site receives this confirmation. Test mode needs its own setup, so confirm both live and test mode if you use test mode. To check, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

> **Note**
>
> When **Enable test mode** is selected in **Account Management**, no real card is charged, and the payment page lists simulated readers instead of your real readers. Turn off test mode before you take real payments.

## Take the payment

1. Open your store on the device.

2. Add the products the customer wants to the cart.

3. Go to the checkout page.

4. Enter the customer’s billing details.

5. Under the payment options, select **Jovvie Payments**. If you changed the payment method title in the settings, select that title instead.

6. Click **Place order**.

You are taken to the Jovvie payment page. It shows the items and the total.

7. Select **In-Person Payment**.

8. If you see **Provide PIN to access**, enter your Access PIN in **PIN**. If you do not see it, skip to step 10.

9. Click **Submit**.

10. Under **Choose a reader**, select the reader the customer will use. Each reader shows its name and status.

11. Click **Process Payment**.

12. Ask the customer to tap, insert, or swipe their card on the reader, or pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay on the reader.

13. Follow any prompts on the reader screen.

When the payment goes through, you are taken to the WooCommerce order received page.

For more about the payment page, see [Take a payment on the Jovvie payment page](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/jovvie-payment-page/).

## What happens to the order

When you click **Place order**, WooCommerce creates the order with the status **Pending payment**.

Reaching the order received page does not by itself complete the order. Your site completes the order when it receives the payment confirmation from Stripe (a webhook). WooCommerce then moves the order to **Processing** and adds the note **Payment succeeded in Stripe.** This can happen before or after you reach the order received page.

If the payment fails, WooCommerce moves the order to **Failed** and adds the note **Payment failed in Stripe.** when your site receives that update from Stripe.

If an order stays **Pending payment** after the customer paid:

1. In **WooCommerce** > **Settings** > **Payments** > **Jovvie Payments** > **Account Management**, check the **Last webhook received** date and time in the **Webhook** row. See [Settings reference](https://docs.jovvie.com/checkout/woocommerce/settings/).
2. Check your Stripe Dashboard to see whether the payment went through or is still processing.
3. Do not charge the customer again. Contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).

If WordPress shows the notice **No webhook received for Stripe + Jovvie In-person. Please check your settings.**, your site is not receiving payment confirmations. Contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/) before you take more payments.

## If you need to stop

To leave the payment page before the customer pays, click **← Back**. You go to the order received page, and the order stays **Pending payment**.

Only click **← Back** after you are sure the customer has not paid. If a payment error appears, or you are not sure whether the card was charged, check your Stripe Dashboard first. Make sure no payment went through and none is still processing before you try again, place a new order, or cancel the unpaid order. If you are still not sure, contact support.

## Need help?

If the checkout page shows **An error occurred while trying to proceed to payment using Jovvie Payments.**, or the payment page shows an error, see [Checkout payment page errors](https://docs.jovvie.com/troubleshooting/checkout-errors/) or contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/).
