# Add a fee in Jovvie Point of Sale

> Add a fixed or percent fee, such as a service charge, to the order.

Use a fee to add an extra charge to an order, such as a service charge, a gratuity you name yourself, or a handling charge. You choose a name, a type, and an amount.

## Before you start

- The cart needs at least one item. See [Find and add products](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/add-products/).
- The **Add a fee** button can be hidden for a station. If you do not see it, ask an administrator or shop manager. See [Show or hide register buttons](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/register-buttons/).

## Add a fee

1. Tap the three-dot menu in the cart totals area.

2. Tap **Add a fee**. The **Fee** screen opens.

3. In **Fee Name**, type a name, such as “Service charge”.

4. Choose the type:

   - **Fixed Fee**: a set amount.
   - **Percent Fee**: a percent of the order subtotal.

5. Enter the amount on the keypad. A percent must be above 0 and no more than 100.

6. If your store charges tax, choose an option under **Taxes**:

   - **None**: no tax is charged on the fee.
   - **Taxable**: tax is charged on the fee.

7. If you chose **Taxable**, choose the tax class in the second list that appears.

8. Tap **Apply**.

The register shows **Fee applied** and the fee appears in the cart totals. Its name shows the name you typed followed by **Fixed Fee**, or by the percent and **Fee** for a percent fee.

**Apply** stays off until you have entered a name and an amount.

## Remove a fee

Tap the remove button next to the fee in the cart totals. The register shows **Fee removed from order**.

Some fees are added by the register itself, such as a payment method fee. Those cannot be removed from the cart. See [Add a payment method fee](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/payment-method-fees/).
