# Send a Stripe invoice to pay later in Jovvie Point of Sale

Section: Jovvie Point of Sale > Take payments

> Email the customer a payment link from the register so they can pay the order later.

Use the **Invoice** payment method when the customer wants to pay later instead of at the counter. The register saves the order and emails the customer a link where they can pay. The order stays **Pending payment** until the customer pays.

> **Note: Stripe only**
>
> Invoices use your connected Stripe account. The **Invoice** payment method only appears after Stripe is connected. It is not available with NMI. See [Stripe and NMI: what’s different](https://docs.jovvie.com/payments/stripe-vs-nmi/).

## Before you start

- Stripe is connected and **Invoice** is turned on. See [Set up invoice payment terms](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/invoice-terms/).
- The customer has an email address. You add the customer to the order before you send the invoice.
- The cart has at least one item. See [Find and add products](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/add-products/).

## Send the invoice

1. In the cart, tap **Checkout**.
2. If a tip screen or a **Points & Rewards** screen opens, complete it first. See [Accept a tip](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/tips/) and [Redeem Points and Rewards](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/points-and-rewards/).
3. Under **Select Payment Method**, tap **Invoice**.
4. Next to **Send to**, check the customer and email address. If no customer is shown, tap **Select customer** and choose or add the customer. To use a different customer, tap **Change**.
5. Under **Terms**, check the selected term and the due date next to it. If more than one term is offered, tap the term you want.
6. If you chose a custom due date option, pick the date. It must be within the next year. Otherwise you see **Pick a date within the next year.**
7. Tap the pay button. By default it shows **Pay** and the amount.

The register saves the order and queues an email with the payment link for the customer. The screen then shows **Invoice sent to** and the email address, the term and due date, and that the order is pending until the customer pays. Tap **New Order** to start the next sale.

**Invoice sent to** does not confirm that the email was delivered. If you see a message starting with **Email failed:**, or the customer does not receive the email, see [Resend an invoice](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/resend-an-invoice/).

If you tap the pay button with no customer email, you see **Add a customer with an email address to send an invoice.** and the customer list opens. See [Add a customer to a sale](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/add-a-customer/).

## After you send the invoice

The order stays **Pending payment** until the payment is confirmed. When the invoice becomes due, Jovvie schedules the payment link to be cancelled. The due date alone does not confirm that the link was cancelled or whether the customer paid. Before you send a new link or take the payment another way, confirm that no payment succeeded and none is still processing.

- To check whether the customer paid, see [Follow up on an unpaid invoice](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/invoice-follow-up/).
- To send the payment link again, see [Resend an invoice](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/resend-an-invoice/).
- If the customer comes back to pay in person, see [Take an invoice payment another way](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/invoice-paid-another-way/).

## Refunds

You can refund a paid invoice from the register. The money goes back through Stripe. See [Refund an order in the register](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/orders/refund/).
