# Lock a Jovvie Point of Sale station

> Lock the register when you step away so no one else can use your sign-in.

When you step away from the counter, lock the station (one register in Point of Sale) so no one else can use your sign-in. The next staff member then signs in with their own passcode or login.

## Before you start

- Sign in to the register. See [Open the Jovvie Point of Sale register and sign in](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/open-the-register/).
- Locking needs user switching turned on for the station. User switching lets different staff members sign in on the same register. See [Set up passcodes and user switching](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/user-switching/).

## Lock the station

1. Open the menu.
2. Click **Lock Station**.

The register returns to the lock screen. The next staff member signs in as described in [Open the Jovvie Point of Sale register and sign in](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/open-the-register/#sign-in-as-a-staff-member). Refreshing the page does not unlock a locked station.

You can also click the lock icon in the top bar. It does the same thing.

The lock icon and **Lock Station** only appear when user switching is turned on for the station. The register can also lock itself after a set time or after each sale. See [Set up passcodes and user switching](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/user-switching/).
