# Accept a tip in Jovvie Point of Sale

> Add a tip to an order on the register's tip screen before the customer pays.

This page shows you how to add a tip to an order before the customer pays. When tips are turned on for your station, the register shows an **Add a Tip** screen after you tap **Checkout**. The customer or a staff member chooses a tip, and the register adds it to the total before payment.

Tips are added in the register, not on the card reader or terminal. This is the same whether your store uses Stripe or NMI.

## Before you start

- Tips are turned on for your station. See [Set up tips](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/tips/).
- The cart has at least one item. See [Find and add products](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/add-products/).

## Add a tip

1. In the cart, tap **Checkout**.

   The **Add a Tip** screen opens. The top shows **To Pay:** and the order total before the tip. If a **Points & Rewards** screen opens first, complete it. See [Redeem Points and Rewards](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/points-and-rewards/).

2. Choose one of these. Your station decides which ones appear.

   - Tap a percent button. Each button shows the percentage and the tip amount.
   - Tap **Custom Tip Amount** to enter your own amount. See [Enter a custom tip](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/tips/#enter-a-custom-tip).
   - Tap **No Tip** to continue without a tip.

   The payment screen opens. If a tip was added, the top shows **Includes Tip** and the tip amount.

   If **Display Points and Rewards after Tips** is selected for your station, the **Points & Rewards** screen may open next instead. Complete it, and then the payment screen opens. See [Redeem Points and Rewards](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/points-and-rewards/).

3. Take the payment as usual. For example, see [Take a cash payment](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/cash/) or [Take a Stripe card reader payment in Jovvie Point of Sale](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/card-payment-stripe/).

The tip is part of the amount charged. It is added to the order as a separate fee called **Tip**, with no tax.

## Enter a custom tip

1. Tap **Custom Tip Amount**.

   A keypad opens with a **Tip** field.

2. Type the tip amount on the keypad. Or tap a percentage on the right side of the keypad to use that percent of the total.

3. Tap the checkmark button to confirm.

The tip must be more than zero. To continue without a tip, tap **No Tip** instead, if your station shows it.

## Change or remove the tip

1. On the payment screen, tap **Cancel checkout**.
2. If the register asks **Cancel checkout and return to cart?**, tap **Cancel checkout**.
3. In the cart, tap **Checkout** again.
4. Choose the new tip, or tap **No Tip**.

Change the tip before you take the payment.

## If there is no No Tip button

Your station may be set up without a **No Tip** button. To continue without a tip, ask an administrator or shop manager to change the tip options. See [Set up tips](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/tips/).
