# Sell a product by weight in Jovvie Point of Sale

Section: Jovvie Point of Sale > Take payments

> Enter a weight for a weight-based product and check it in the cart before you take payment.

Some products are priced by weight, such as produce or deli items. Each product has a price for a set weight, such as a price per 1 kg or per 100 g. This page shows you how to enter a weight, and the register works out the line total from it.

## Before you start

- The product must be set up for weight-based pricing. See [Set up weight-based pricing](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/weight-pricing/).
- Weight-based pricing works only in Point of Sale. It does not apply to your online store.
- Sign in to the register. See [Open the Jovvie Point of Sale register and sign in](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/open-the-register/).

## Add a weight-based product

What happens when you tap the product depends on a station setting.

If your station asks for confirmation (**Weight products need to confirm weight to add to card** is selected for the station):

1. Tap the product tile.
2. Tap the field under **Weight**. A keypad opens. The unit, such as kg or lbs, is shown in the label.
3. Enter the weight on the keypad. If the product has a weight limit, the **min** and **max** values are shown under the field. Stay within them.
4. Tap the checkmark button on the keypad.
5. Leave **Quantity** at 1 unless you are selling more than one package at this weight. To change it, tap the field under **Quantity**.
6. If you opened the **Quantity** keypad, enter the number of packages and tap the checkmark button.
7. Click **Add**.

If your station does not ask for confirmation:

1. Tap the product tile.
2. The product is added to the cart with its default weight.
3. Change the weight in the cart. See [Change the weight in the cart](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/weight-products/#change-the-weight-in-the-cart).

You can also tap the plus button on the tile to open the same **Weight** and **Quantity** fields, even when confirmation is off.

## Check the weight in the cart

Weight-based items show an arrow in the cart line. Tap the arrow to see the line’s detail, which shows the weight, the price, and the weight it is priced per. For example, a detail line can read like “2 kg (price per 1 kg)”.

Always read the weight back before you take payment. The line total is the weight you entered, divided by the weight the product is priced per, times the product’s price, times the quantity. For example, 2 kg of a product priced per 1 kg, with a quantity of 1, costs twice the product’s price.

## Change the weight in the cart

1. In the cart, find the item.
2. Tap the three-dot menu on the line.
3. Tap **Weight**.
4. Enter the new weight on the keypad that opens.
5. Tap the checkmark button on the keypad.

The line total updates.

To change the price for the product’s set weight, tap **Weight Price** in the same menu. Changing this price needs permission to change prices. ## Quantity

The **Quantity** option in the same menu changes how many of the weighed item you are selling, not the weight.
