# Log out inactive users in Jovvie Point of Sale

> Sign staff out of the register automatically after a period with no activity.

Set up auto logout to sign a user out of the Jovvie Point of Sale register after a period with no activity. This helps when staff walk away from a register that is still signed in. When the time you choose passes with no activity, the register shows a warning. If nobody responds, it signs the user out five minutes later.

This is different from locking a register for user switching. See [Set up passcodes and user switching](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/user-switching/) for that.

## Before you start

You need to be an administrator or shop manager.

## Set the logout time

1. In your dashboard, go to **POS** > **Stations**.

2. Click **Edit Station** on the [station](https://docs.jovvie.com/start-here/glossary/#station) you want to change.

3. Open the **Users** tab.

4. Under **User Auto Logout Action**, choose a time:

   - **Disable auto logout**
   - **Auto logout in 5 mins**
   - **Auto logout in 15 mins**
   - **Auto logout in 30 mins**
   - **Auto logout in 60 mins**

5. Click **Save**.

The default is **Disable auto logout**.

## What staff see

When the time passes with no activity, the register shows a window called **User Inactivity Check**. It says **Log out countdown started. Click or Tap “OK” to stay logged in.** and shows a five-minute countdown.

- Click **OK** to stay signed in.
- Click **Logout** to sign out now.
- If nobody responds before the five-minute countdown ends, the register signs the user out.

This means the user is signed out about five minutes after the time you chose. For example, with **Auto logout in 15 mins**, an unattended register signs out after about 20 minutes.

The window can appear a little after the time you chose.
