# Cart, stock, and coupon problems in Jovvie Point of Sale

Section: Jovvie Point of Sale > Fix problems

> Fix stock hold messages, items that cannot be added, coupons that do not apply, and shipping that shows no methods in Point of Sale.

This page is for the Jovvie Point of Sale register. If an item will not go into the cart, a coupon will not apply, or shipping shows no methods, it helps you find the message you see and fix it.

## Stock

### **“Oops, the product stock hold has expired”**

**Symptom:** A window with this title appears over the cart. It offers **Restore Previous Order** and **Start New Order**. You may also see a notice that says **Product inventory expired**.

**Cause:** While items are in the cart, the register holds their stock for a set amount of time. That time ran out, so the stock was released for other sales.

**Fix:**

1. Click **Restore Previous Order** to try to put the same items back in the cart.
2. If the items are restored, continue the sale.
3. If you do not want the old items, click **Start New Order**.

To change how long stock is held, ask an administrator or shop manager to:

1. In your dashboard, go to **POS** > **Stations**.
2. Find the station and click **Edit Station**.
3. Open the **Products** tab.
4. Under **Inventory Management**, change **Hold stock (minutes)**. Leave it blank to turn the hold off.
5. Click **Save**.

For more about stock settings, see [Set up inventory for a station](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/inventory/).

### **“Oops, sorry the inventory is no longer available”**

**Symptom:** The stock hold window shows this title, and **Restore Previous Order** is greyed out. Or a red notice with this text appears after you click **Restore Previous Order**.

**Cause:** Someone else sold the items while the hold was expired, so there is not enough stock to restore your cart.

**Fix:**

1. Click **Start New Order**.
2. Add the items again. If an item is out of stock, offer the customer something else.

### **“Oops, stock was not restored for the products: Error”**

**Symptom:** After you click **Restore Previous Order**, a red notice starting with this text appears. It ends with an error number.

**Cause:** The register could not restore the stock hold for the cart.

**Fix:**

1. Check that this device is connected to the internet.
2. Click **Start New Order** and add the items again. **Restore Previous Order** is greyed out after this message. Before taking payment, check the Orders panel (see [Find and view orders](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/orders/find-orders/)) and your Stripe Dashboard or NMI terminal. Confirm that no payment went through and none is still processing. If you are unsure, contact [Jovvie support](https://jovvie.com/support/) before taking payment.
3. If it continues, contact support and tell them the error number.

### **“This item is out of stock”**

**Symptom:** You tap a product and see this message. The item is not added to the cart.

**Cause:** The product has no stock left.

**Fix:**

1. Check the stock for the product in your dashboard. If you counted more items on the shelf, update the stock quantity there.
2. On the register, open the main menu and click **Sync Now**.
3. Add the product again.

### Message starting with **“Only”** and ending with **“available”**

**Symptom:** You add a product and see a message such as **Only 2 units available** or **Only 1 unit available**. The quantity you asked for is not added.

**Cause:** The quantity in the cart is more than the stock on hand.

**Fix:** Lower the quantity to the number shown. If the stock count is wrong, update the product in your dashboard and sync the register. See the steps in [“This item is out of stock”](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/troubleshooting/cart/#this-item-is-out-of-stock).

### Out of stock products are missing or still showing

**Symptom:** A product you expect is not in the product list, or an out of stock product still shows.

**Cause:** Each station can hide out of stock products from the product list. A station that does not hide them shows an **Out of Stock** label instead.

**Fix:** Ask an administrator or shop manager to check the station’s **Products** tab. Look at **Hide out of stock products from POS product list** under **Inventory Management**. See [Set up inventory for a station](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/set-up/inventory/).

## Coupons

### **“Coupons are disabled”**

**Symptom:** The coupon window shows this message and no field for a code.

**Cause:** Coupons are turned off in your store settings.

**Fix:** Ask an administrator to turn on coupons in your store settings. Then open the main menu on the register and click **Sync Now**.

### **“Invalid Coupon Code.”** or **“Not found”**

**Symptom:** You enter a coupon and see **Invalid Coupon Code.**, or the list shows **Not found**.

**Cause:** The code does not match a coupon in your store. The code may be misspelled. If the coupon window shows a list of coupons, the coupon may not have synced to the register yet (syncing means the register updates its saved copy of your store’s data).

**Fix:**

1. Check the spelling of the code.
2. If **Sync** appears in the coupon window, click it.
3. Try the code again.
4. If it still fails, ask an administrator to check that the coupon exists and is active.

### **“This coupon already applied”**

**Symptom:** You try to add a coupon and see this message.

**Cause:** The coupon is already on this order.

**Fix:** No action is needed. To remove it, remove the discount from the cart. The register shows **Discount removed from order**.

### Message starting with **“Coupon not applied:”**

**Symptom:** A red notice starting with **Coupon not applied:** appears, followed by a reason.

**Cause:** The order does not meet one of the rules set on the coupon. The reason after the colon tells you which rule.

**Fix:** Look up the reason in this table.

| Reason shown | What it means | What to do |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Coupon Expiration Date** | The coupon has expired. | Use a different coupon, or ask an administrator to change the expiry date on the coupon. |
| **Minimum Spend** | The cart total is below the coupon’s minimum, which is shown in brackets. | Add items until the cart reaches the minimum. |
| **Maximum Spend** | The cart total is above the coupon’s maximum, which is shown in brackets. | Remove items or use a different coupon. |
| **Exclude Sale Items** | The coupon does not apply to sale items. | Use a different coupon, or add items that are not on sale. |
| **Products** | The cart does not have the products the coupon is for. | Add a product the coupon covers. |
| **Exclude Products** | The cart has a product the coupon excludes. | Remove that product or use a different coupon. |
| **Product Categories** | The cart does not have a product in the categories the coupon is for. | Add a product from a covered category. |
| **Excluded Categories** | The cart has a product in a category the coupon excludes. | Remove that product or use a different coupon. |
| **Usage Limit per coupon** | The coupon has been used the most times it is allowed. | Use a different coupon. |
| **Usage limit per user** | This customer has used the coupon the most times they are allowed. | Use a different coupon. |
| **Individual use only** | The coupon cannot be combined with another coupon on the order. | Remove the other coupon first, or use only one. |

Coupon rules are set on the coupon in your dashboard, not on the register. To change a coupon, ask an administrator or shop manager.

### **“Sorry discount can’t be applied to custom products not saved”**

**Symptom:** You apply a discount and see this message.

**Cause:** The cart has a custom product that has not been saved. Discounts cannot be applied to it.

**Fix:** Save the custom product, or remove it from the cart, then apply the discount again. See [Add a custom product](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/custom-product/).

## Shipping

### **“Oops, no shipping methods are setup for the customer”**

**Symptom:** In the shipping window, you see this message followed by a reminder to check the customer’s address.

**Cause:** The customer’s address is incomplete, or your store has no shipping method set up for that address.

**Fix:**

1. Check that all the customer’s address fields are filled in. See [Add a customer to a sale](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/add-a-customer/).
2. Try again.
3. If the address is complete, ask an administrator to check that your store has a shipping method for that location.

### **“Oops, no shipping methods are setup for the location.”**

**Symptom:** After you choose a shipping location, the method list is empty.

**Cause:** Your store has no shipping method for that location.

**Fix:** Ask an administrator to add a shipping method for that location in your store’s shipping settings. If you use Standalone, contact Jovvie support to change this. Then sync the register and try again. See [Add shipping to an order](https://docs.jovvie.com/point-of-sale/sell/add-shipping/).

### Message starting with **“Oops, something went wrong: Error”**

**Symptom:** A red notice starting with this text appears when you load shipping methods. It ends with an error number.

**Cause:** The register could not load the shipping methods.

**Fix:**

1. Check that this device is connected to the internet.
2. Close the shipping window and open it again.
3. If it continues, contact support and tell them the error number.
