Open the till in Jovvie Point of Sale
Open the till at the start of a shift to start a cash session. The till is the cash you keep at the register. The register records the cash you start with, then keeps track of cash sales, cash refunds, and other cash movements against it. See the glossary for more.
Each station (one register in Point of Sale) has its own till. Only one till session can be open at a time for a station, and for each currency if the station accepts more than one.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Cash management is set to Full Cash Management for this station. See Set up cash management.
- You have permission to manage cash. By default, administrators and shop managers do. If you do not see Cash Management in the register menu, ask an administrator.
- Count the cash in the drawer. You will enter this amount as the opening float, which is the cash you start the shift with.
- If your station asks for a PIN on this action, have the Cash Management PIN ready.

If no till is open, the Open Till screen appears. Once a till is open, a green dot appears next to Cash Management in the menu. The dot turns red when no till is open at the station. If the station accepts more than one currency, the dot stays green while any currency’s till is open.
-
If the station accepts more than one currency, select the currency tab at the top first. Each currency has its own till.

-
Optional: in Note, enter a note, such as the name of the shift.
-
Select Open Till.
-
If the Enter Cash Management PIN screen appears, enter the PIN. If it does not appear, skip the next step.

The register shows Till opened successfully, and the Cash Till screen appears with a status of Open. It shows the Opening Float and the Expected Total. Right after you open the till, both are the same amount.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”While the till is open, the register updates the Expected Total each time:
- A customer pays with cash, or with the cash part of a split payment. The amount added is the cash you keep, which is the cash received minus any change given.
- A cash refund is made. The refunded amount is taken off. This also happens when you refund an order that was paid with a split payment that included cash.
- You record a paid in, paid out, drop, or adjustment. See Record paid in, paid out, drops, and adjustments.
Cash sales are only added to the till if it is open when the sale is completed. You can still take cash payments with no till open, but they are not added to any till session.
When your shift ends, close the till.
