Take a cash payment in Jovvie Point of Sale

Use the Cash payment method when the customer pays with notes and coins. You enter how much cash the customer gave you, and the register shows how much change to give back.

Cash payments work the same whether your store uses Stripe or NMI for cards.

  • The Cash payment method is turned on. Your store may have renamed it. See Choose payment methods.
  • The cart has at least one item. See Find and add products.
  • If your station uses cash management, open the till to start a cash session first. Cash sales are only added to the till if it is open when the sale is completed. See Open the till.
  1. In the cart, tap Checkout.

  2. If a tip screen or a Points & Rewards screen opens, complete it first. See Accept a tip and Redeem Points and Rewards.

  3. Under Select Payment Method, tap Cash.

Amount Tendered is filled in with the total to pay.

  4. If the customer gave you more than the total, enter the amount they gave you in Amount Tendered.

The change to give back appears next to Change: at the top of the screen.

  5. Take the cash from the customer.

  6. Tap the pay button. By default it shows Pay and the amount.

  7. Give the customer their change.

When the payment is recorded, the register shows the order with Paid:, Amount Tendered:, and Change:. Tap New Order to start the next sale.

If the customer gave you less than the total

Section titled “If the customer gave you less than the total”

If Amount Tendered is less than the total, the register does not record the payment. You see Oops! Payment has not been processed by customer yet.

Collect the rest of the cash and enter the full amount. If the customer wants to pay part in cash and part another way, use a split payment instead, which divides one sale across more than one payment. See Split a payment.

By default, cash orders are marked Completed. Your store can choose a different status for cash orders. See Choose payment methods.

If the order shows Processing after payment, tap Complete when you have handed over the items. See Change an order’s status.

A refund in the register for a cash order only records the refund. Give the cash back to the customer yourself. See Refund an order in the register.
